Welcome to Adams Middle School!
The middle years are time for growth, challenge and discovery. At Adams, we encourage students to participate fully, to take risks, to be self-advocates, and to create lasting memories and relationships with their peers and staff. I am proud to be the principal of such a nurturing staff and a member of the "Adams Family!"
Our primary focus at Adams is academic achievement. Our goal is to provide enriching, engaging, and standards-based curriculum that will prepare students for success at Redondo Union High School, the finest high school in the south bay! We believe that students, parents and teachers all play a vital role in helping students reach their greatest potential. Parents and guardians are encouraged to check their student's progress regularly on our parent portal, which can be accessed on our school website. Students are encouraged to take advantage of the many resources available to them, especially if a particular class becomes difficult. These resources include Homework Club, after school math tutoring and reading development, the Zone, the library and its computer lab, and intervention elective classes.
Math and Science are our focus this year. Thanks to the Redondo Beach Education Foundation (RBEF) Adams will receive an upgrade in our science lab and new science lab materials and resources. We are proud to have had a student win first place at the LA County and State Science Fair last year, especially since it was our first year participating at these levels. Our goal is to increase student participation at the LA County level. We are excited to introduce a Robotics class this year, as students will learn computer programming skills and more. In many math classes, students will discover math concepts by actively engaging in lessons with our new student response clickers. While our budget is limited, we are committed to finding ways to integrate technology in the classroom.
Most middle school students will agree that life beyond the classroom is a primary interest. At Adams we recognize that social/emotional development is as essential to student success as academics during the middle years. Besides choosing their elective, students may join two clubs, participate in intermural sports after school, go to science camp in 6th and 8th grade, and participate in various volunteer and community service projects. There is truly something for everyone!
The foundation for student success is based on a partnership between students, staff, and parents. Active parent participation is very important. I hope to have the opportunity to speak with you on an informal basis at a school activity or PTSA meeting. You are invited on campus anytime! Come have lunch with us.
I look forward to working with you as Adams reaches for greatness!
Sincerely,
Nicole Wesley, Ed.D.
